Polymer Clay, Needle, Foil, Wire and Black 100% Cotton Twill. 9" 1/2 x 16" x 3"
Inspired by my las name "Cisneros" that signifies Swan I created a piece that I could wear it on the chest. Traditionally in some cultures the display on the chest of a symbol that represented their group or family and helped to identify as one of them. In this case the black swan is describing the saying of "the other in the family". To display it on my chest is reaffirming my identity as I never felt that I fit within the dynamic of my family. Also the bird is not endemic of the Americas, giving the narrative of immigration and diaspora.
