Immigration
Immigration is a mural on an electric box located at Bridletowne Cir and Warden Ave, Toronto, and is part of the Street Art Toronto program. Migration is a mural that explores the journey of those living in the diaspora in North America. In recent years the relationship between the three countries, Canada, Mexico and The United States of America, has been more complicated by those who want to fragment us instead of bring us together. We share the natural ecosystem between these three countries, one that is delicate and intertwined. I use the Monarch Butterfly’s life cycle as a metaphor for how hard it is to migrate to another country. In many cases, migration comes with a debt on the journey to the land and our ancestors. The Monarch Butterfly passes through different stages of its life in each country, like some immigrants who left family members or ancestors in other parts of the world. Another symbolic element is the natural resources represented in the mural and their impact on all countries. This mural intends to remind us that we have more in common and have a connection to the land and each other.
