Polymer Clay, Needle, Foil and Wire. 4" x 4" x 2" 1/2
“Scorpion Pin” is inspired by my mother’s Zodiac sign, Scorpio. In Mexican culture, scorpions are seen as protectors against evil and bad luck. To signify her sickness and struggle with her arthritis, the scorpion has inflamed joints. It hangs over the the shirt collar to not fall, as my mother needed help from others to not fall too. To create the sculpture “Scorpion Pin”, I started with a wire armature, then I covered it with polymer clay and started building it from the base, then legs and tail, finishing with the pincers.
